BFL, or Bluefaced Leicester, sheep's wool is naturally soft, silky, and durable. The wool is approximately 80–90 mm long. Sagawool's hand-dyed wool tops are made from 100% BFL sheep's wool. The wool comes from Great Britain. It is curly, soft, durable, and easy to spin.
BFL sheep:
The Bluefaced Leicester is a British longwool sheep breed. It originated in Northeast England in the late 19th or early 20th century and descends from the white-faced Border Leicester, with some influence from the blue-faced Wensleydale and possibly also the Teeswater.
- Micron: 26mic
- Wool length: 85–90 mm
- Naturally slightly curly wool
- Also suitable for felting, needle felting, or crafts.
Before spinning, you can open up the top by pulling it apart slightly, as the fibres may be clumped together after dyeing. It can be spun directly from the top or by "stripping" the top into several strips and coiling them into a hank.
You can spin the top using either a spinning wheel or a drop spindle.
